Longtime Latin pop star Luis Fonsi, who catapulted into the limelight with last year’s megahit “Despacito,” has bought a mansion near Miami to fit his newfound stardom.

Earlier this year, Fonsi spent a little under $5 million to buy an 8,300-square-foot, seven-bedroom, eight-bath mansion on the water in Coral Gables, FL. Built in 1992, the mansion is quintessentially South Florida, with palm trees shading a wide motor court, marble floors, double-height ceilings, and a 110-foot-long dock perfect for a luxury yacht.

The house is located in the luxurious Cocoplum neighborhood south of downtown Miami, a 10-minute drive from the University of Miami. Most of the homes in the neighborhood have water access, and multimillion-dollar yachts are commonplace.

At Fonsi’s new home, double doors open to a grand foyer with tall ceilings and custom marble inlays in the floor. In the foyer, a staircase with custom metalwork leads to an open hallway, allowing guests to look down into the living room and out to the backyard.

The living room has 24-foot-tall ceilings, three sets of French doors, and a fireplace. The home’s previous owner decorated the living room in a French Provincial style, with a large tapestry hanging above the sitting area, and candelabra-style light fixtures.

The kitchen has a large chef’s island with a tiled countertop, industrial-style refrigerator, and gas range. French doors here also lead to the backyard.

Outside, steps lead down to the pool, spa, and decorative jetted water feature. There’s an outdoor kitchen, and a dock on the canal, which connects to Biscayne Bay, and eventually, the Atlantic Ocean.

Elsewhere, there’s a recreation room, wine room, two offices, and a two-bedroom, one-bath staff quarters. The house was initially listed in mid-2016 for $6.3 million, but saw a series of price cuts over the next two years. In February, it was listed for $5.2 million.

Fonsi, 40, began recording in the late 1990s, putting out nine studio albums before “Despacito.” The chart-topping song remains YouTube’s most-watched video of all time, with nearly 5.5 billion views.
