It’s no joke: A-list actor and comedian Eddie Murphy once maintained a home near California’s capital city. Located in the upscale Sacramento-area enclave of Granite Bay, the home is now on the market for $10 million.
The movie star purchased the property in 1998 with his then-wife, model (and Sacramento native) Nicole Mitchell. After the couple’s divorce in 2006, Murphy sold the place for $6.1 million in 2007, according to the Sacramento Bee.
The home is currently owned by an investor who is offering the home fully furnished. Located east of Sacramento, the spacious spread includes 12,600 square feet on 2.5 acres. The property is situated in the guard-gated community of Los Lagos Estates and borders the picturesque Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, with hiking, biking, and running trails, as well as the Los Lagos Equestrian Center for riding, boarding, and training.
From its perch, the home overlooks Folsom Lake, with views of the Sierra Nevada mountains and the Sacramento skyline. The layout includes 10 suites, 14 bathrooms, and a nine-car garage. There’s a 1,200 square-foot, commercial-quality gym, a tennis and basketball court, and a pool. The space includes a separate 5,200-square-foot guesthouse with a conference room and three-car garage.
The entry features double curved staircases that wrap around the great room, a 38-foot rotunda with floor-to-ceiling windows and a hand-painted sky with individually lit stars. A sitting room with a fireplace opens to a formal dining room. The eat-in kitchen includes granite counters, a breakfast bar, and dining nook.
The master suite takes over an upstairs wing that can be accessed by elevator. The bed is raised to take advantage of views from the wraparound windows, and there’s a private balcony. The master bath includes a jetted tub, granite counters, a walk-in closet, and a dressing room.
Other amenities include an office, arcade room, billiards room, and 12-seat home theater, and four wet bars. The furnishings, selected by the Murphys, according to the listing, were custom-built for the space or purchased by the couple for the home.
The wildly popular and talented 57-year-old is considered one of the best stand-up comedians ever. The Golden Globe winner has starred in numerous films, notably “Beverly Hills Cop,” “Trading Places,” and “Dreamgirls.” He also voiced Donkey in the animated “Shrek” movies, and is one of the highest-grossing actors of all time.
Nick Sadek holds the listing.
