On the popular sitcom “Young Sheldon,” this quaint ranch house stands in as the humble Texas home of Sheldon Cooper’s family.
In reality, it’s a long way from the Lone Star State—the home built in 1949 is located in the Los Angeles suburb of Valley Village. It’s completely renovated inside and is currently on the market for $1,185,000.
The area is notable because homes can ably serve as TV and movie stand-ins for a variety of locales—even Texas. In fact, this three-bedroom, three-bath, 1,746-square-foot home is within a couple of miles of the famous “Brady Bunch” house, which was also used for exterior establishing shots for the iconic ’70s show.
And although it’s only the exterior of the home used on “Young Sheldon,” producers continue to use the spot to film characters on the lawn, porch, and the driveway. In fact, they’re shooting on site a couple of days this month. This means as long as the show is running, this place will provide a source of income for the owners. Bonus!
And prime time isn’t the only time you’ll see this place on TV.
The entire house—including the interior—will be featured on an episode of the CNBC reality series “Listing Impossible.” The show will feature luxury real estate agent Aaron Kirman and his team offering a plan to help the homeowners sell the home.
Their plan in the case of this relatively rare Mellenthin ranch involved a complete interior renovation from top to bottom. Thankfully for Sheldon, the home’s classic exterior was left pretty much as is.
Inside, the original oak hardwood floors have been completely refinished, and the floor plan was opened up to include a dining room and brand-new kitchen. The kitchen now features designer lighting fixtures, quartz countertops, a custom backsplash, new stainless-steel appliances, as well as new custom Shaker cabinets.
Also added? A revamped master suite with a walk-in closet and spa-style bathroom with custom tile, a rain shower, designer vanity, and lighting features. The home’s other two bedrooms and baths have been redone as well.
In addition, the home’s infrastructure also got an extreme makeover. There’s a new roof, new electrical wiring, and a new HVAC system controlled by a Nest.
It’s now quite a bit fancier than anything the Coopers could have conceived living in.
Yawar Charlie with Aaron Kirman Group at Compass has the listing.
